A don, Prof. Obasi Igwe, has called on the Federal Government to stop
the allocation of oil blocks to individuals in the country.
In an
interview in Abuja on Thursday, Igwe, the Head of Department, Political
Science, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, said it was an anomaly for
individuals to own oil blocks.
He said that there was no reason
for the government to say there was no money to pay civil servants’
salaries yet some individuals with oil blocks lived in extravagance.
According
to Igwe, the Federal Government should
be in charge of the oil blocks
to allow it address the economic challenges in the country.
The don said that for many years, individuals controlled these oil blocks without any contributions to the economy.
Igwe said that licences for oil blocks already allocated should be revoked and the Federal Government should take them over.
He
said that a lot of Nigerians were richer than many African states,
however, were not willing to demonstrate any form of patriotism by
helping to rescue the country in its hour of need.
Igwe advised
President Muhammadu Buhari to take immediate and precise steps to
restore hope and confidence of Nigerians in his administration.
According
to Igwe, the anti-corruption war of the Buhari administration has
created revolutionary situation that must be sustained.
