
Blessing Okagbare, Divine Oduduru and Egwero Ogho-Oghene have been listed for the 2016 Olympic Trials in Sapele, Delta State.
The
Athletics Federation of Nigeria said during the week the 2016 National
Trials would be merged with the Confederation of Africa Athletics Grand
Prix, both events holding in Sapele. The trials will hold on July 7 and 8
while the CAA Grand Prix, also known as the Warri Relays, will take
place on July 9.
According to a list released by the AFN on
Friday, over 250 athletes – both home and abroad – have qualified to
take part in
the trials. The AFN during the week released specific
standards for each event while some other events were left open.
Okagbare
leads the list for the women’s 100m and 200m while Egwero and Oduduru
lead the men’s 100m and 200m. She is joined in the 100m by Gloria
Asumnu, Aniekeme Alphonsus, Agnes Osazuwa and Sule Justina. Okagbare
will tackle Ngozi Onwumere, Uko Peace, Cecilia Francis, Praise Idamadudu
and Isoken Igbinosun in the women’s 200m.
Egwero
was joined in men’s 100m by Seye Ogunlewe, Raymond Ekevwe, Oduduru,
Odele Tega, Obinna Metu, among others. The men’s 200m, which has nine
qualified athletes. Most of them also qualified for the 100m.
In
the women’s 400m, Patience George and Regina George lead the list while
Durban 2016 African Championships bronze medallist, Chidi Okezie, and
Orukpe Erayokan lead the men’s 400m.
Alex Al-Ameen, Tyron Akins
and Abdullahi Bashiru will battle in the men’s 110m hurdles while NCAA
Female Athlete of the Year, Tobi Amusan, will clash against returning
Toyin Augustus and Francis Ruth in the women’s 100m hurdles.
Tameka
Jameson, Amaka Ogoegbunam lead the women’s 400m hurdles while Miles
Ukaoma, Okorie Henryand Cristian Morton will compete in the men’s 400m
hurdles.
The women’s long jump is headed by Ese Brume and Okagbare
while the men’s shot put is led by Stephen Mozia and Nwanneka Okwelogu
and Claire Uke will lead the women’s shot put. Tosin Oke and Olu
Olamigoke lead others in the men’s triple jump.
